This has been an epic week in American history and has left our nation divided. Many are still processing the weight of the election and forecasting what they believe will occur over the next four years. They are unsure of what is next for their families, friends, jobs, and lives.
I’ve talked to so many people I love and some I don’t even know who feel betrayed, hurt, and scared. While others are relieved, they are still unsure of what the future holds and some are even afraid to talk about it.
The one thing that unites both sides now is a sense of not knowing.
Not knowing what is considered “safe” anymore is hard for all of us, no matter your political affiliation. It is a fear that bonds us, even when it appears to divide our nation. This month as we are focusing on leading beyond fear, let’s choose empowerment over embodying the fear we feel.
In times of transition and uncertainty, we tend to do one of two things:
- Express ourselves externally to process our emotions, or
- Turn inward to reflect, and even grieve, when we experience a sense of loss
Be mindful of which method you choose and how you share (or don’t share), and make sure you’re seeking the support you need now. Notice when you’re acting – or reacting – from a place of fear, rather than your values, and choose to shift your perspective to reclaim your power.
I hope and pray, however you feel, that you find a safe place to share your story and heal as you need because our world needs your strength and talent now more than ever. It needs your positivity and hope. Our nation is diverse and powerful and gets its strength from the democracy that protects your freedom of expression and creativity.
Here are a few things I want to pass along to encourage and empower you as you lead beyond fear:
Be intentional. Make your words and actions count. Be the example you want to see in the world.
Seek to understand. Instead of demonizing and alienating the “other,” choose curiosity over criticism and see what you discover.
Lead from your values. Take time to reground your life in what matters most and find the strength to lead from this space.
Spread hope. Even if you feel totally hopeless RIGHT NOW. Find one thing that sparks hope and share it. Be the catalyst for the change you desire.
And if you still need some breathing room, join me on a vicarious vacation to Big Sur and take a moment to release what isn’t serving you. Then keep going…
And Now For the REALLY GOOD NEWS…
For the better part of a decade, I have felt called to lead other women through moments of transformation. Over the past few months, I have been dreaming about and planning a BRAND NEW retreat experience that is now open for enrollment. It’s called Lead Wholehearted.
