The spring season is a time of growth and change. Just look around you and notice that flowers are budding, trees are becoming leafy green, and birds are chirping – nature is in full-bloom as we embrace even more transition!
While we welcome some warmer weather, we may also be feeling the desire to make some changes in our own lives. The age-old tradition of spring-cleaning is one that can be applied beyond cleaning out our closets at home. So let’s dive deeper into strategies for Spring Cleaning for your Body, Mind, and Business!
Your Lifestyle Wheel
With a quarter of 2015 behind us, it’s time to check in with how you’re doing on your personal and professional intentions and refocus on what’s really important! One of my favorite exercises to do with clients (and myself) is creating a Lifestyle Wheel.
I’ll walk you through a simplified version of it here so you can take a snapshot of where you are now and what’s next for your growth!
STEP ONE: In each of the categories below, write down a few words and phrases to describe what is going on for you now. Get really clear on how you feel about this area of your life, then assign it a number between 1 (low) to 10 (high) based on your current level of satisfaction.
- Health and Wellbeing
- Personal Relationships
- Fun and Recreation
- Career Development
STEP TWO: Now plot each of the points on the graph below in the corresponding area and connect the dots to form your Lifestyle Wheel* (click here for your own downloadable version).
*The Lifestyle Wheel is an adapted version of The Wheel of Life Exercise from The Coaches Training Institute
Notice the pattern it forms based on the differences in each area of your life. If this circle were actually a wheel of your car or bike, how smooth or bumpy would your ride be?
STEP THREE: Take a moment to consider what you would like to change in each area of your life. What would increase your satisfaction level, even by one or two numbers? What would it take to get to this new level? Make a list of 3-5 specific things you are going to STOP doing and another 3-5 action that you are going to START doing to boost your satisfaction and the desired outcomes for each.
I will STOP doing…
And this will allow me to…
I will START doing…
And this will allow me to…
Put a date on your Lifestyle Wheel and save it so you can track your progress in the next 3-6 months. This is a great way to check in and hold yourself accountable to your goals for personal and professional growth. This is also connected to the concept of increasing your MARGIN to enhance your emotional endurance and ways to create your “To Be” List if you want to take it a few steps further!
