The Gift of Completion

December 22, 2015

You have ten days left of this calendar year.

How are you doing?

While dates and year-markers are arbitrary, I’m more interested in the growth and change your life has welcomed in 2015 and is yet to experience in 2016.

Like me, you may have selected your Word of the Year and used this to map your course for the last 355 days. Or maybe you didn’t and you just followed what felt right or learned to listen to what your life needed more (or less of). Or you might have even had a rocky, crazy, “let’s not repeat that again” kind of year…

However you lived out the last year, I would like to offer you a gift as we transition and prepare for all that is ahead.

Through my coaching training and life, I’ve learned the necessary process of completion: Finishing something and making sure it is totally done to the point you can easily walk away and release it entirely.

  • Graduate from an academic program
  • Leave a job
  • End a relationship
  • Finish a meal
  • Go to sleep

Every day, we experience ordinary moments of completion, whether we recognize it or not.  We also have extraordinary moments of completion occur throughout our lives. Whatever the scale of the event, we have the choice in how intentional we are as we complete an experience.

To help support your 2015 completion, I invite you to imagine how you want to feel and who you want to become in the next year.

What version of yourself will you welcome in 2016? Click To Tweet

Now consider the following questions as you work toward completion:

REFLECT: What are you intentionally leaving behind?

NOW ACT: Create Your Personal Quit List

REFLECT: What are you choosing to embrace more instead?

NOW ACT: Choose your 2016 Word of the Year

REFLECT: What one new thing do you want to try or achieve?

NOW ACT: Set a realistic goal for what this will look like in one week…one month…one year…to measure your progress.

REFLECT: What will become possible for you once this happens?

NOW ACT: Plan now for how you want to celebrate your success and hold this as a bigger vision for your life.

th-2As we launch into the new year of 2016, I encourage you to use these questions to help you get clear and complete. I encourage you to take the time to really connect with each reflection question on a deeper level, integrating them with your core values and the person you want to become. Think of your responses as benchmarks for your continued growth and transformation.

Transformation is what matters. And it takes time, energy, and intention. Click To Tweet

PS) As we launch into the new year, you also may be curious about why setting intentions is more powerful than making resolutions and why I don’t create a list of New Year’s resolutions.

Be well and enjoy a wonderful start to the new year!

Be the Revolution,

Sharing – this is from one of Frank’s nieces (not the Methodist minister – a different gal). She lives in California, does leadership coaching for Nike and others, and does TedX talks in Sacramento, among other things. Her messages always inspire me.
